Dane Coppell

Founder and Director

Dane is one of the founding shareholders of Western Energy. With a Master of Science degree in Electronics, and over 30 years’ experience in the geothermal, oil and gas well services business, he’s well placed to guide Western Energy. Dane is sought after as a leading international geothermal expert, and has been involved in all geothermal developments in New Zealand since 2007. He’s passionate about innovation, challenging the normal way of doing things and always strives for the best solution.

Karl Spinks

GENERAL MANAGER

Karl brings vast international expertise to Western Energy with over 15 years’ experience in geothermal exploration, development and operations in New Zealand, USA and South America, He’s worked in both developer and service company roles, and is actively involved in the NZ Geothermal Association, WING, Geothermal Resources Council and the International Geothermal Association. Karl is always on the lookout for a better way to provide energy through well services.

Emily Collis

Intervention Manager

Emily has over 9 years’ experience working internationally in the oil and gas industry throughout many services – including operations management, cementing and technical well design, and service quality. With a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical and Process from the University of Canterbury, Emily is driven to provide effective solutions through client partnerships, and utilising people as Western Energy’s best asset!

David Cuttriss

Commercial Manager

David has over 15 years of local and international commercial accounting experience at high profile companies across a range of sectors such as energy, banking and tourism. He is a Chartered Global Management Accountant™ (CGMA®), has a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Canterbury and is passionate about working closely with clients to create long-term partnerships.

Steven Slothouwer

Quality & Safety Manager

Steven has over 7 years’ geothermal related experience as operator, site supervisor and QHSE manager in designing and implementing systems, and facilitating quality, safety and innovation. His qualifications include a Masters of Industrial Design Engineering, technical University of Delft, plus a Bachelors in Geophysics, State University Utrecht, both from the Netherlands. Steven’s goal is to have a culture with open communication channels, where everyone is learning without blame, and where people are involved and confident enough to raise and solve issues as a natural instinct.

Brian Porteous

Wireline Services Manager

Brian has more than 10 years’ experience in geothermal cased-hole and open-hole wireline services in New Zealand, Indonesia, Kenya, Australia and the USA. Originally a qualified mechanic in the UK, he trained as a cased hole wireline specialist in New Zealand during the significant geothermal growth in the mid-2000s. Brian led the start-up Tiger wireline business in Indonesia before returning to New Zealand. He’s been with Western for more than 3 years managing the busy wireline operations, and is a member of NZGA and IGA. Brian is truly passionate about delivering great customer service, and prides himself on his responsiveness to client needs.
